Preventative Medicine - why it is important for your health & well-being

My Journey

At the beginning of my journey to become a doctor I attended an international congress of primary care medicine. I was fascinated about the potential to do so much good with so little resources. Meaning you do not need to be rich or have power in order to achieve good health.

I have heard stories of success from all over the world about how ordinary people kept healthy with just preventative medicine. I instantly became a believer in preventative medicine and committed to educating my patients about how they can play a crucial role in their own health.. After all, one of the founding fathers coined the expression “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.

Benefits of preventative health care

Preventative medicine plays a crucial role in maintaining and promoting overall health by focusing on preemptive measures to avoid illness and disease. One of its primary benefits lies in the potential to detect and address health issues at an early stage, often before symptoms begin, leading to more effective and less invasive and complicated interventions.

Regular check-ups, screenings, and vaccinations are key components of preventative medicine. This helps to identify risk factors and allows healthcare providers to offer personalized guidance for healthier lifestyle choices.  Other simple preventative measure one can focus on includes

  • Diet

  • Sleep

  • Managing stress

  • Movement

  • Hydration

  • Regular checkups

  • Good communication with providers

How I will help you achieve your health & well-being

My journey to learn about preventative medicine continued during my internal medicine residency training which had a strong community primary care focus. I was fortunate to learn from experienced internal medicine doctors who have dedicated their life to primary care and teaching students and young doctors.

Working at the hospital for many years has only reinforced my belief that intervening early in the course of an illness or even before it develops can greatly reduce health struggles later in life. At Laza Internal Medicine I will help to guide you towards taking steps you can do on your own and assist you with creating an individualized health plan. Learn more about out services
